What a day in Setúbal actually looks like
Setúbal is the day people don’t expect — a working fishing city on a wide estuary that happens to have wild dolphins living in it, the best grilled fish on the coast, and the Moscatel cellars a few minutes inland. A full day gives you the dolphins, lunch by the water, and the wine, with the estuary and Tróia in between. You decide which of those matters most; we handle getting you to the boat and the bookings around it.
The Sado dolphins
The Sado estuary has a resident pod of bottlenose dolphins — one of the few in Europe that live here year-round rather than passing through. The boat trip out to see them is run by a local operator; what we do is book it and drive you to the dock, so it’s arranged before you arrive. Seeing them is never guaranteed — they’re wild — but the resident pod means the odds are good, especially in the warmer months.
Setúbal old town & the fish market
Setúbal earns its food. The Livramento market is one of the best fish markets in the country, and the city is where choco frito — fried cuttlefish — and fresh-grilled sardines are done properly. A walk through the old town and lunch on the waterfront is half the reason to come down.
Tróia & a wine tasting in Azeitão
Across the estuary is Tróia, a sandbar of white ocean beaches reached by the ferry. Inland is Azeitão, where the region’s wines come from, including the sweet Moscatel. We arrange the tasting with a local cellar and drive you there — the cellar runs the tasting; we get you to it and back. Add either, both, or neither when you plan the day.
How long do you need in Setúbal?
A full day. Setúbal is about 50 minutes south of Lisbon, and the dolphin boat alone takes a few hours on the water, so once you add lunch, the market and a tasting or a beach, you’ve filled the day comfortably. Half a day would mean the dolphins and nothing else — worth it for some, but most people want the food and the estuary too.
It’s an easy run down and back — the motorway south, then the road along the estuary — so the driving never eats into the day. Quiet in the Tesla, with the time on the road spent looking at the water rather than listening to the engine.

How much does it cost?
Price is per group, per duration — not per person, and not per destination. A full day (8 hours) is €600 for 1–4, €700 for 5–6 (Mercedes EQB), €800 for 7–10 (both cars). You choose the stops inside that day. The dolphin boat and the wine tasting are paid separately to the operators. The exact total goes in the plan we send within 24 hours.

Is the Sado dolphin tour included, and do you run the boat?
The boat trip out to the dolphins is run by a local operator on the Sado — not by us. What we do is book it for you and drive you to the dock, so it’s arranged before you arrive and you’re not organising anything on the day. The boat cost is paid to the operator and we’ll tell you what it charges in the plan we send. Seeing the dolphins is never guaranteed — they’re wild — but the Sado has a resident pod, so the odds are good. Add it when you build your tour.

No — the tasting in Azeitão is run by a local cellar. We arrange the booking and drive you there and back, so it’s set up in advance. The tasting cost is paid to the cellar. Want it on your day? Add it when you build your tour.

When's the best time to see the dolphins?
The Sado pod lives in the estuary year-round, so they can be seen in any season, but the calmer, warmer months — roughly spring to early autumn — give the best conditions on the water and the highest chance of a good sighting. They’re wild animals, so no operator can promise them — but the resident pod makes the Sado one of the most reliable spots in Europe.

Do you pick up at my hotel in Lisbon?
Yes. We pick you up at your hotel or address in Lisbon and bring you back at the end of the day. Setúbal is about 50 minutes each way to the south.

What if it rains, or someone in my group gets sick?
Reschedule for free if we agree at least 24 hours before pickup. The 25% reservation fee follows this policy: more than 48h before pickup, the fee is refunded in full; 24 to 48h before, half the fee is retained; less than 24h with no valid reason, the fee is retained in full. If the dolphin boat is cancelled by the operator for weather, that booking follows the operator’s own policy, which we’ll have told you in advance.
